The Left: A Quarterly Review of Radical and Experimental Art

From The cultural front: the laboring of American culture in the Twentieth Century by Michael Denning

Perhaps the most interesting of these radical modernist magazines were The Left, whose two issues were published in Davenport, Iowa in 1931, and Contact, whose three issues were edited by William Carlos Williams and Nathaniel West in 1932. The Left: A Quarterly Review of Radical and Experimental Art was deeply indebted to Soviet modernism, using Soviet film stills for its cover and featuring a unique cinema section with the young Lewis Jacobs.
